12.00pm POLTERGEIST (1982) Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family in this smartly filmed, tightly scripted and consistently frightening modern horror classic. Directed by Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Tobe Hooper with an obvious influence from producer and writer Steven Spielberg.
2.10pm CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1979) Primitive savagery meets modern world brutality in Ruggero Deodato’s timeless slice of visceral horror. An anthropologist travels to South America to find a lost documentary crew but instead of survivors he discovers a world of cannibalistic excess. When he screens the footage left behind, chaos erupts with the most disturbing images committed to celluloid.
4.00pm AUDITION (1999) One of the most notorious J-horror films ever made, Takashi Miike’s Audition exploded to a chorus of awards and praise. A widower takes advantage of his position in a film company by staging an audition to find a new wife leading to delirious editing and shocking visuals for one of the most harrowing and depraved climaxes in cinema history (Subtitled).
6.15pm THE FLY (1986) David Cronenberg’s delirious reimagining of the 1958 classic of a scientist whose experiments with teleportation lead to a nasty genetic mix-up, The Fly isn’t just one of the very finest horror movies, it’s also one of cinema’s great tragic romances and the master filmmaker’s finest hour.
8.10pm HALLOWEEN (1978) The astonishing success and streamlined power of John Carpenter’s breakthrough indie horror gave birth to the slasher subgenre. Scary, suspenseful, and viscerally thrilling, four decades later, Halloween is still close to flawless and set the standard for modern horror films.
10.00pm THE WICKER MAN (1973) Something nightmarish lurks beneath the surface in this folky horror, as a dour Presbyterian policeman arrives to investigate a missing 12-year-old girl. Released as a B-movie and neglected for years, this vintage British horror, is now a cult classic with an ending that is both shocking and truly memorable.
11.40pm DEMONS (1985) Dario Argento brings you a frenzied slice of 1980’s gore heavy shock cinema that gives up on logic and assaults the screen with a riot of violence, face chewing zombies and pounding heavy metal. In a creepy, mysterious cinema, horror rips out of the screen, unleashing a swarm of slathering demons intent on spreading their evil plague.
