Without Sudbury Dramatic Society there would be no Quay Theatre. Back in the 1960s SDS, who until then had performed at Sudbury’s Victoria Hall, became involved in the project to give the town its own theatre. The Quay building was bought by the society in 1979 for £15,000 and the rest, as they say, is history!
Although The Quay and SDS are now separate entities, SDS remain a major contributor to the theatre’s finances, especially with our annual pantomime.
We currently put on six shows a year at The Quay which are decided up to a year in advance. Casting is always by open audition, with auditions announced on our website http://www.sudburydramatic.com, publicised around the theatre and in the local press.
We produce an informative monthly newsletter which keeps members not currently involved in a production, up to date with what is going on. Read our latest edition at http://www.sudburydramatic.com/readour.html or find us on Facebook
We are always on the lookout for new acting members and help is always needed behind the scenes, with anything from costumes to technical and backstage people. Interested in joining us? – come along and meet us on the last Sunday lunchtime of the month in The Quay Bar which is a regular meeting point for members.
You can find details of all our forthcoming shows and auditions on the SDS website at www.sudburydramatic.com
